Cooler Lumpur Festival welcome Deaf Community To Attend the FUTURE Workshop @ Publika, Malaysia

The Cooler Lumpur Festival is a multidisciplinary festival curated by PopDigital. The Kuala Lumpur-centric festival adopts specific themes each year with the aim to expand the city’s cultural horizons, build stronger communities and cultivate the creativity and imagination of people.

The Cooler Lumpur Festival has always been about the FUTURE. About providing that vibrant space at which we can have those important (and sometimes difficult) conversations that help explain who we are and, most importantly, where we’re going.

This year, at the 5th edition of The Cooler Lumpur Festival, we will once again look to the social, political, technological, and cultural ideas that have become representative of these times and tell the story of our collective futures.

FREE ADMISSION! You can enter which is one of the workshops make you interest to know more so deeply! Come to JOIN the Cooler Lumpur Festival workshop at Black Box, Publika in Mont Kiara on this weekend - 19 & 20 August 2017!

Our whole lives are essentially governed by five tech giants: Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple. This is a dependency that will only grow. These are digital tentacles that are set to become, with each and every passing day, more pervasive in our everyday. In many ways, this modern capitalist construct runs in contrary to our notions of freedom and self-governance. This panel will take a look at the impact that our casual dalliances with technology will have on our fragile notion of democracy.

From the Nineteen Eighty-Four to The Handmaid’s Tale to The Road, so many of our presumed and imagined futures are dark and dystopic. Why are we so fascinated with our end of days? What do they tell us about ourselves? On this panel, we take a look at these bleak visions of the future and examine if they are in any way preventive or merely prescriptive.

Millennials, or the Latte Economy as they are becoming known, are the most sustainability-conscious generation - studies have shown that they are the most willing to spend more on brands that are seen as sustainable or environmentally responsible. While they stand to gain from the vast expertise of environmentalists from the older generations, are their beliefs and actions translating into real value? We speak to individuals from different green movements to discuss simple and practical actions that can make a difference now.

This panel is partnered by Green Future Malaysia.

Here's an age-old question: What do women want, what they really really want? We put together a high-flying CEO, a working mum turned stay-at-home-mum, and a feminist who may or may not be angry to dissect the world's greatest mystery. Could there be a key to a woman's heart? Are diamonds a girl's best friend? Or are women actually unique individuals who don't all fit into a common and convenient box? Maybe, if that box contains jewellery. We kid. (But some women don't want kids, the cheek of it!)
